Founder & President
Daniel Miller
Founder and President, Texas Nationalist Movement. Sixth-generation Texan, son of a Korean War veteran. Author of TEXIT. Nearly thirty years making the case for Texas independence.
Biography
Daniel Miller is a sixth-generation Texan and the son of a Korean War veteran. The conviction that has defined his life was forged at his father's dinner table, where politics was discussed every night. He set out to build a movement that could win Texas independence the right way: legal, transparent, democratic, and built on popular support rather than paperwork.
On November 17, 2005, Daniel founded the Texas Nationalist Movement with Lauren Savage and Charlie Doreck, signing a founding charter at a small square table in his home in Nederland, with his wife Cara present. He dedicated his book TEXIT to Savage and Doreck, two men who never gave up on the vision of an independent Republic and did not live to see it come within reach.
Daniel has served as TNM's President from the founding to the present. Under his leadership, the movement has grown from three signers at a kitchen table to 635,352 supporters across all 254 Texas counties, 257 officials and candidates on the Texas First Pledge, an independence plank in the dominant Texas political party across three consecutive conventions (a 2020 right-to-secede plank at 93 percent of delegates, then a 2022 independence-referendum plank reaffirmed in 2024), the Texas Independence Referendum Act filed for a binding vote, and the 2025 passage of HB 1056, gold and silver as legal tender, a foundational piece of the economic architecture for an independent Texas. In the March 2026 primary, roughly 1.6 million Texans voted for a Texas First Pledge signer.
Daniel is the author of TEXIT: Why and How Texas Will Leave the Union (Defiance Press, 2018), the canonical book-length case for modern Texas independence, and Line in the Sand (2011), his first book. Two further books are forthcoming: The Tethered Sovereign and Crossing The Line. His wife, Cara Miller, serves as the movement's Director of Operations.
Daniel is an Orthodox Christian and a member of St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Beaumont, Texas. He resides in Nederland, Texas, with his family.
