Statement from Daniel Miller on the Federal Election-Security Disclosures
Daniel Miller responds to the federal government's declassified election-security records and calls on Governor Abbott to convene a special session on election security before the November election.
We called it.
For more than fifteen years the Texas Nationalist Movement has warned that the system counting Texas votes is not safe and was never built to be. We said the electronic machines could be hacked. We said the voter rolls were exposed. We said a system run out of Washington would never be one Texans could trust. They waved it off as a conspiracy theory. This week the federal government declassified its own intelligence and proved the case for us.
China got into the voter rolls, more than 200 million records in a single haul. Washington's own cybersecurity agency says the machines are open to attack and the answer is paper. Hundreds of thousands of noncitizens are registered across the states, because Washington spent years refusing Texas the data to find them.
Can I prove an election was stolen? No. Can anyone prove one wasn't? No. That is the scandal. At the DEFCON security conference, researchers broke into every voting machine they were handed and showed the vote could be changed. This week the federal government admitted its own people took full control of election networks in hours or days. China got into the voter rolls, the layer no recount ever checks. The machines can be turned. The rolls can be rewritten. And the audits everyone waves around only ever check a slice of it. When they swear the count was clean, they are vouching for the part they checked and saying nothing about the rest. Texas is told to trust a system it is forbidden to inspect. It does not have to.
Here is what Texas does now, before November, not in 2027. Governor Abbott calls a special session on election security. Immediately. Every measure below belongs on the call:
- A moratorium on electronic voting machines for the November general election. Texans vote on hand-marked paper.
- The paper-ballot and audit reforms Steve Toth and Bob Hall have fought for years to move: hand-marked paper, paper poll books, real chain of custody, and a hand audit of the paper before a single result is certified.
- Separation of Texas's state and local elections from the federal ballot, the approach Rep. Mike Schofield authored and Sen. Bryan Hughes carried, so our races run under Texas rules and outside the federal mandates that built this mess.
- Documentary proof of citizenship to register, verified by Texas, not by a database Washington sat on for years.
- A ban on any voting machine with foreign ownership, foreign parts, or a live internet connection, with its code open to inspection as the price of running in Texas.
- Texas's voter data taken back and guarded here, instead of fed into the federal and commercial systems China already harvested.
None of this waits on Washington. None of it needs Washington's permission. Every step is practice for the day Texans stop asking and hold the whole of it themselves.
