Texas Nationalist Movement Launches a Citizenship Test for an Independent Texas
The Texas Nationalist Movement has launched thetexastest.com, a free citizenship test for an independent Texas that uses the federal naturalization test's format: 20 questions, 12 right to pass.
The Texas Nationalist Movement today launched the Texas Citizenship Test, a free online test at thetexastest.com. It asks what an independent Texas might ask the people who want to become its citizens.
Independent countries decide who their citizens are, and many test the people who apply. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia all do. The Texas test uses the federal format. An applicant for U.S. citizenship is asked up to 20 civics questions from a published list of 128 and must answer 12 correctly. The Texas Citizenship Test draws 20 questions from a bank of 168, and 12 right answers pass.
The questions are about Texas. One asks who presides over the Texas Senate. Another asks what Texans called the Republic's paper money in 1839. The bank covers the Republic of Texas, the Alamo, the Texas Constitution, the Legislature, elections, and county and city government.
The test asks for no account and no name. Each result comes back as a graded answer sheet with a rank. A passing score earns Citizen. Only a perfect 20 earns Signer, named for the men who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos in 1836. A result link carries the same 20 questions, so a friend can take the identical test and compare scores.
Every question in the bank is published in a study guide at thetexastest.com/questions. A free weekly email sends one question each Monday, along with the answer to the week before. "Washington expects everyone who applies for citizenship to know how the federal government works," said Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement. "An independent Texas would expect its citizens to know how Texas works. Most Texans would like to think they'd pass. Now they can find out."
