Texas Nationalist Movement Publishes a Free Texas Civics Course

The Texas Nationalist Movement has published Texas Civics, a free course on how the government of Texas actually works, on the TNM Academy inside the TEXIAN app. It is open to anyone, member or not, at no charge.

The course runs to 34 lessons and roughly 50,000 words, about nine hours of study, built to the standard of a college Texas-government course. Its lessons work from primary sources, among them the Texas Constitution, the United States Constitution, and the Texas Election Code, and they teach the case law and the mechanics that decide real outcomes. Each lesson closes with a worked example and a quiz that must be passed with a perfect score before a student moves on.

Texas Civics covers the machinery of self-government at every level: the Texas Constitution and its history, the plural executive, the Legislature and its 140-day session, how a bill becomes law and where most bills die, the courts, elections and the primaries that usually decide them, redistricting, and the county, city, school, and special districts that tax and govern Texans day to day. It is not a general survey of American government. It is a working manual for the system Texans already live inside.

The course is built toward one end, named in its own description: how Texas governs itself, from the constitution down to the precinct chair, and the lawful, constitutional path a Texan walks to put independence to a vote. Because Texas has no statewide citizen initiative, only the Legislature can place an independence question on the ballot, which makes the path to that vote a matter of primaries, conventions, and the ordinary work of moving the people already in office.

"Texans are governed by machinery most of them were never taught to operate," said Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement. "This course hands it to them, free, sourced, and complete: how Texas actually works, and the lawful, peaceful path to putting our future to a vote. A self-governing people has to understand how it governs itself."
